CHIALA is a place of mutual exchange among people with and without experiences of migration. Its cultural work aims to bridge Austrian and African cultures. The appreciation and the handling of social diversity is one of the central challenges of a democratic society.
We organise cultural and social projects with a focus on Africa, as well as creative and anti-racist workshops, African catering and the annual Afrika Festival, in order to promote the inclusion and societal participation of African migrants and the ‘coming together’ of people in all their diversity and individuality.
The effective aims of our cultural work include
- raising the number of migrants participating in cultural and societal events
- the establishment of African art and culture in the cultural world of Styria
- raising awareness for the value of a culturally diverse society
